cocos a l’anise (anise seed cookies)

We mavidstitch_image_081302_20150106de these as a Christmas cookie with primary students. They loved mixing all of the ingredients and learning where each thing comes from. I love to call these root, seed, bark cookies – ginger root, wheat berry & fennel seeds, and cinnamon bark!

  • 1  1/4 cup white sugarIMG_1429
  • 1 cup salted butter
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. ground fennel
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1tsp. chopped fresh ginger

For the topping: 4 tsp. ground fennel, 4 tbsp. organic sugar, 2 tsp. cinnamon
